About me

Hi i'm Jamie

I'm not very good at writing these things...
Single

About my collections

I don't have a very large film collection but it is growing all the time. Tell me a film that you think is good and I’ll go watch it see what i think.

I like most films but the ones I am more drawn to are the ones that don't pretend to be something they’re not, films like kill bill, fight club and Shawshank redemption. Even though they are simple they still make you think.

As for music I like a bit of everything, it just depends what I feel like listening to. Most of the things I artists I like are quite popular: arctic monkeys, Foo Fighters, Oasis. I also like things that aren't as modern like the Beatles, Johnny Cash, the rolling stones.

I'm not as keen on books as I am on films but I have read a few, crime books and horror mostly. I'm not a massive geek but I do lime comic books. I'm more a fan of the heroes like Batman and Spiderman because I feel like they have actually worked hard with their abilities rather than the likes of Superman who are born incredibly powerful. One of the best comics I have read is watchmen it smart it entertaining and I'm looking forward to the film (I think).

I like games. Mostly FPS’s but quite few others as well. Recently I have gone off games a bit; I just get bored when I am playing them.

Slumdog Millionaire review

Posted : 15 years, 3 months ago on 22 January 2009 01:29 (A review of Slumdog Millionaire)

Slumdig Millionaire is a really great feel good film. It starts off pretty sad but quite involving. Each mini story about how Jamal knew the answer is entertaining, emotional and exciting. The mini stories set up the background to the main character and provide some basis on the evnts that follow. Once you get to know the background of the main charcter you start to get involved in the plot which leads to an entertaining story and a good ending

Overall a really good film and something a bit different.

REDЯUM

Posted : 15 years, 3 months ago on 14 January 2009 06:46 (A review of The Shining)

Nearly thirty years after we first saw Jack Nicholson hack his way through the toilet door, 'The Shining' continues to put the frighteners viewers old and new. I've watched this film a couple of times, and even though I now know exactly what's coming and where, it still sends an uneasy chill up my spine. It's downright disturbing, is what it is.

This timeless horror stars Nicholson as a struggling novelist who, along with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their son Danny (Danny Lloyd), takes a job as winter caretaker in an apparently empty hotel. The fact that's it's the scene of a previous grisly murder and built on an Indian burial ground should set alarm bells ringing, but it seems there's only one person willing to point out how bad an idea the whole thing is. And that's Tony, the gruff-voiced "imaginary" friend who talks through Danny's finger. Suffice to say, they should all have listened to the kid's finger.

Nicholson's display in this is quite simply superb. His gradual descent into outright madness seems slightly unfounded, but there's a strange credibility to his performance that makes such logic seem almost irrelevant.

Director Stanley Kubrick but brings to the story his own brand of visual perfection. Long shots down endless corridors underline the sheer size of the hotel, whilst rapid cuts to an increasing array of ghostly apparitions are unnerving in a way few films have been able to match since.

If Kubrick's intention is to unsettle the viewer, then his film's got its objective down to a tee. The film is riddled with perplexities yet taking your eyes off it is virtually impossible.

One of the horror genre's finest, this isn't a film to watch if you're about to spend the winter alone in a hotel Full of ghosts and axes.

House M.D

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 22 December 2008 07:32 (A review of House M.D.)

House is a really good medical TV show with a twist. The main character House (Hugh Laurie) really drives the show along with his wry sense of humour always making a bad situation feel better for himself, but not necessarily the others around him. Although House is the central character his supporting cast all perform very well involving you in the storeys surrounding them.

A funny show with a serious side and good actors House is one of the best shows around on TV today.

The Soparanos

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 22 December 2008 07:19 (A review of The Sopranos)

Probably one of my favourite shows to watch the sopranos combines a gritty and dark look into the mafia with a alternate view of the family side of things. One of the things that i like most about the show is the fact that the characters are developed in depth and means that there is no subplot that you want to miss out on. The twists and turns in the main plot also mean that you are eager to see the next episode.

Although it the show declines after the third season it is still highly entertaining and defiantly not one to miss!

Ghost Town

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 21 December 2008 04:01 (A review of Ghost Town)

Its not a great film but it will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Even though its meant to be a comedy the funny moments are few and far between. The single largest strenght of this film is Ricky Gervais, he manages to turn boring situations into quite funny ones and he reminded me a bit of John Cleese. That said Ricky Gervais is a good comedian but his acting could do with some work.

Overall the film did what it is meant to and kept you interested but its not going to win any awards and certainly is not an unmissable film.

The Departed

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 20 December 2008 05:44 (A review of The Departed)

Good film, good story line, good characters.

This film is well worth a watch. The story is simple but smart always keeping you involved, the actors put in good performances which means that you can empathise with the characters, and the end gives it just that little bit extra something to make it a great film.

Firefly

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 20 December 2008 05:36 (A review of Firefly)

This TV show is probably one of the best i have seen. It continues improving throughout the series, the characters are really intriguing and. There is something that everyone will like in this show whether it's the ongoing story or just the way the characters act with each other.

Be warned though because this series will seriously piss you off knowing that the only continuation of the story is the film (also worth a watch).

YAY you love me so much that you made a display picture dedicated to me? I've gotten to you so much that you spent time making it in Microsoft Paint, too?

LOL! I want to be an animated character from Halo? Oh that's rich. It's the equivalent of someone calling themself James Bond and someone making a picture of James Bond having anal sex and calling it an insult to that user. It makes NO SENSE!

I'm sure you've had intercourse with Pid, right?
Thought so.
